Preparing care from abroad
Practical guidance for families arranging support in Kosovo together and with respect.
2 minute readBegin with the person’s wishes
Start by speaking with the person whose daily life is involved. Good support begins by asking what would feel helpful and appropriate, not by presenting a finished solution.
- Which everyday tasks have become difficult?
- What should remain independent?
- Which routines and times matter most?
Clarify roles and contact routes
Agree who makes decisions locally, who receives updates abroad and who keeps the overall picture. This helps avoid parallel arrangements and misunderstandings.
- Name one main contact person
- Record the preferred contact method
- Agree how often updates are needed
Record consent clearly
The person receiving support decides what information may be shared and with whom. Visits, appointments and sensitive observations should be discussed separately rather than covered by a vague general consent.
Start small and review
A manageable start leaves room to review the plan together. After the first visits, discuss what helps, what is missing and what is no longer needed.
- Define the first tasks clearly
- Set a short review date
- Document changes in an understandable way
When professional help is needed
Acute symptoms, emergencies or medical questions require the appropriate healthcare professional or emergency service. Everyday organisation is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment.
